Amy was a nurse in the Royal Air Force for seven years before being medically discharged with Post Traumatic Stress. At first, her condition was so bad that she was unable to do anything.
Amy was encouraged to engage with a small organisation called 65 Degrees North who invited her to join a cycling expedition to Australia. The Munda Biddi Trail covers over 1,000 of outback and is considered one of the toughest cycles in the world due to its remote nature, long distance and challenging off road conditions in searing Western Australian temperatures.
Whilst there, Amy found that it had left her mind clearer than it had been for three years. It was in the Pyrenees that her extraordinary physical condition became apparent.
On the Munda Biddi Trail, Amy proved herself to be strong, fast and extremely capable of helping lead the team along the way. An extremely determined person, she gradually opened up as the ride progressed. She map-read the whole route, and on several occasions was able to offer expert opinion as to exactly where the team were.
“The endeavour has re-invigorated a positive outlook of the world, progressing me from a life of existence to a life worth living for again.” – Amy Klepacz
The Munda Biddi Trail was incredibly tough. The team would only arrive at their accommodation after 10-12 hour rides over challenging country, and they were all extremely tired at the end of each day. Amy’s determination helped the rest of the team a great amount and she became an impressive example to the entire team.
Jonathan Thomson, from Munda Biddi Trail said: “Amy was an absolute inspiration to us all. We had some tough times, with some of the Team doubting their ability to complete the course. There was never any doubt about Amy who took hold of this most unusual opportunity and made the utmost use of it.”
After her impressive performance, Amy was nominated at the 2019 Endeavour Fund Awards where she was celebrated along with eight other stand-out Endeavour Fund participants, each one having taken part in remarkable sporting and adventure challenges.
