In September 2016, a new Endeavour Fund supported challenge, Climbing 2 Recovery, brought the opportunity for wounded, injured and sick (WIS) to get involved in climbing and mountaineering whilst in a highly controlled environment. The team of 5 undertook a training weekend on an indoor climbing wall in the UK, and then had the chance to go to the Alps to undertake an intensive but fun Alpine skills in Chamonix for 10 days.
The team practiced summer climbing skills and also rope, snow, glacier and ice techniques and as the team gained experience, attempted the summit of Monta Rosa (4061m), succesfully summiting to finish their fantastic experience in the Alps.
All guiding was undertaken by UIAGM certified mountain guides.
Due to the success of this inaugrual endeavour, it will be repeated in 2017. Please contact the Endeavour Fund if you would like more information. The team will welcome beginners to both climbing and mountaineering.
